The Future of Renting: Hekeltje and RentBuddy Join Forces for RFID Innovation

When you think of the logistics behind a large rental company, you think of complex processes and tight schedules. At the renowned rental company Hekkelje, these logistics are now getting a technological upgrade. In close collaboration with software developer RentBuddy and RFID supplier Aucxis, the company is working on the next step: the implementation of advanced RFID integration on the new RentBuddy Next platform .

Recently, the developers at RentBuddy paid a working visit to Hekeltje at the invitation of Marco Gerrits. The goal? To see how the software translates into daily efficiency in a fast-growing warehouse environment. What began as a long-standing business relationship has since grown into a strategic partnership between RentBuddy and Hekeltje. Owner Hein Oud on the collaboration with RentBuddy: “Our collaboration with RentBuddy goes back quite some time now. During that time, we’ve discussed and jointly developed many customized solutions, and they’ve listened carefully to our specific needs and challenges. What started as a system with a clear starting point has since evolved into a solution that can do much more than we initially expected.”

Innovation in the Workplace

The collaboration focuses on the development of RentBuddy Next, RentBuddy’s new web platform. By using RFID technology—which automatically scans goods as they pass through warehouse gates—the margin of error is minimized and the speed of the logistics process is greatly increased.

Geert van Erven, who is closely involved in the development, emphasizes the importance of these kinds of visits: “After more than a year of building RentBuddy Next, it’s essential that our team experience firsthand how our software makes a difference for a landlord of this caliber. It’s about more than just code; it’s about optimizing real-world practices. We speak the landlord’s language, and that must be true at every level of our organization. So that certainly starts with the programmers and our own development team.”

It was an educational experience for the developers. Emre Karabacak, a developer at RentBuddy and one of the programmers working on RentBuddy Next, describes it as a true“eye-opener”: “It’s impressive to see firsthand what goes into running a rental company of this size. The combination of packing slips and RFID scans immediately shows how much time this saves for the employees on the floor. Having a clear and accurate overview of your inventory is crucial. That’s why, right after the visit, I developed and optimized a number of screens to provide clear insights into your inventory during a busy season.”

Hekeltje will be one of the first customers, alongside the Van Ham Group, to make the full transition to the new RentBuddy Next web environment. The initial positive experiences with RentBuddy Next at the Van Ham Group (now Event Family as of September 1) show that we can look forward to positive experiences from future users of our new RentBuddy Next platform.
